12 km of death: The bloody side of Karnataka's scenic Charmadi Ghat

Charmadi Ghat A blend of beauty and horror

Nestled in the southern hilly regions of Karnataka, the popular tourist destination Charmadi Ghat is known for its natural beauty and chilly winters.

But the picturesque valleys of Charmadi have a spooky side to them. A number of unidentified dead bodies have been found along the 12 km stretch from Kottigehara and Dharmasthala.

Last week, an unidentified body of a woman was hurled into the valley, according to the police.

“In the last month alone, we found three unidentified bodies in Charmadi Ghat. This has become a favourite dumping site for dead bodies. Murderers from several districts toss dead bodies into the valley,” said Superintendent of Police Annamalai.

The residents of Charmadi fear to step out of their homes after dark.

“Ghats such as Mullayanagiri, Muthodi in Chikkamagaluru district have become scary for tourists these days. It's because some people dump bodies in these areas,” said Charmadi resident Devaraj.

Charmadi Ghat falls under the jurisdiction of Banakal police station. The residents have requested the police to put an end to the criminal activities in the area.

The residents of Charmadi hope that their scenic hometown will soon return to the safe and secure place it used to be.
