Bengaluru: Following the death of veteran south Indian actor and Congress leader Ambareesh, Karnataka state has declared that liquor shops will be closed for two days (November 25 and 26). The decision was taken as a mark of respect for the 66-year-old actor.

Ambareesh died at Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru on Saturday night (November 24) due to cardiac arrest. He was suffering from respiratory problems.

The state will observe three-day mourning and the last rites of the former Union minister will take place with state honours.

The public are paying their homage to the actor at Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Sandalwood stars Shivarajkumar, Sudeep, Yash, Jayanthi, Girija Lokesh, Ananth Nag, Sarja brothers and others paid their last respects.

Even stars from Tollywood and Kollywood like Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Mohan Babu, Sarathkumar and Radhika and others paid homage.

The mortal remains of Ambareesh were kept at Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru for the public to pay respects. Thousands of people thronged the stadium and many did not get a chance to have a final glimpse of their leader.

It was planned to airlift the mortal remains from Kanteerava Stadium to Mandya. But due to trees, mortal remains were taken to HAL in Bengaluru by road and then airlifted to Mandya, the hometown of the actor-politician.

Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, Congress leaders Siddaramaiah, G Parameshwara, DK Shivakumar and other paid their homage to late Ambareesh.
