Asianet News Mood of the Voters survey: Would farm laws be an issue in UP election 2022?

Among other things, the Asianet News Network survey sought to understand the people's view on the farmers' protest. Here's what the 'Mood of the Voters' in Uttar Pradesh is like at the moment.

The assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are just seven months away. But the political temperature of the state is already on the way up. 

The BJP wants to repeat the history of 2017 by retaining the power in Uttar Pradesh while the Opposition is busy plotting the defeat of the current government. But what is the mood of the people of Uttar Pradesh regarding Election 2022?

To understand this, Asianet News Network conducted a 'Mood of the Voters' survey through Jan Ki Baat across six zones in the state. 

Among other things, the survey sought to understand the people's view on the farmers' protest. 

There is already a nationwide debate on the new farm laws introduced by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. However, there is still no consensus on these laws in UP. 

Except for Western Uttar Pradesh, other regions still have a mixed opinion about this law.

The Asianet News Network survey found that 55 per cent of people clearly said that they do not know whether this law is good or bad. Another 24 per cent were of the opinion that this law is better, while 21 per cent said it is bad. 

However, 40 per cent of the people said that they have read and understood agricultural laws, while 31 per cent were unaware of this law.

Region-wise breakdown

Goraksh region: 51 per cent of the people surveyed said that they do not know about the agriculture laws. While 29 per cent have described it as good, 20 per cent of the people have described the agriculture law as bad. In this region, data suggests, 48 per cent of people said that they have not read or understood the agriculture laws. Another 21 per cent said that they had read the law, while 31 per cent did not respond.

Brij region: Here, 45 per cent of the people have described the agriculture laws as bad, while 30 per cent say that they do not know whether it is good or bad. In comparison, 25 per cent of the people termed them as good for farmers. Here 44 per cent of the people said that they have read and understood the laws, while 31 per cent said that they have not read them. Another 25 per cent did not know anything about it.

Western Uttar Pradesh: Here, 63 per cent of the people have described the agriculture laws as bad. While 18 per cent were happy with the new laws, 19 per cent said that they do not know whether it is good or bad.  Another 72 per cent of the people surveyed said that they have read and understood the agriculture laws, while 14 per cent have not read and 14 per cent do not know about them.

Awadh region: In the survey, 64 per cent of the people said that they do not know whether the new laws are good or bad. Only 28 per cent said that agriculture laws are good. At the same time, 8 per cent said that the agriculture bill is bad. About 55 per cent of the people here don't know anything about the agriculture bill. While 40 per cent did not even read the laws, only five per cent of the people here have read and understood the legislation.

Kashi region: Here also, 48 per cent are unaware of the agriculture laws. But 31 per cent said the new agriculture laws were bad, while 21 per cent called it better. Here 27 per cent of those surveyed said that they had read agricultural laws, while 60 per cent have not read the legislations, and 13 per cent know nothing about the laws.

Kanpur-Bundelkhand: In the survey, 60 per cent said that they do not know about the agriculture laws. While 30 per cent said the new laws were good, 10 per cent said they harmed farmers. On the question of whether they had read or understood the agriculture bill, 50 per cent of people of this region chose not to express their views.
