During Mamta Banerjee's Asansol rally during 2019 elections, she said, "Modi didn't come to Bengal earlier and in elections, he needs votes from Bengal. We will give him rasgulla from Bengal. We will make sweets from soil and put pebbles in it similarly like cashew nuts & raisins are used in laddu, that will break teeth."

This statement comes in the backdrop of Narendra Modi disclosing in the interview with actor Akshay Kumar that the Bengal chief minister sends him kurtas and sweets every year. This embarrassed Banerjee, who is fighting a pitched battle against the BJP in the state. Later she said, the Prime Minister is politicising her courtesy.

To that Modi said he would happily accept a rasgullas made of soil and pebbles from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Didi said she wants to give me rasgullas made of soil and pebbles. The soil of Bengal has the essence of greats like Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, JC Bose, Netaji, SP Mukherjee and if Modi gets rasgulla made of this holy soil then it will be a prasad for Modi," the PM said.
