Mahesh Bhatt who is no stranger to controversy silenced an entire Muslim gathering at a spiritual event to commemorate Imam Hussain's martyrdom.

Appearing completely in black, the director reached the podium and from crowd a Muslim man first praised Bhatt for having sufficient knowledge about Islam and Quran and invited him to the new religion at the event.

To this, Bhatt said, "One truth about me is, my father is a Nagar Brahmin, Mother is a Shia Muslim and I studied in Don Bosco Christian convent and grew up hearing teachings of Ave Maria and Jesus Christ. In a true sense I am India's secular child which you call as secular Indian. Tolerance for me is not a vote capturing device."

The director also schooled the thousands saying he believes in truth and said he lives 'hadith' rather than just preach it.

Bhatt is known for his outspoken nature and for making comments that land him in controversy.
