WHO experts reach Wuhan to trace Covid-19 origins, quarantined

The visit comes after months of diplomatic wrangling that even saw WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus lodging a public complaint about Beijing's adamant stand.

The WHO team received both throat swabs and antibody tests at the Wuhan airport on arrival. They will be quarantined for 14 days in accordance with regulations.

The WHO experts are drawn from member states including the United States, Russia, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, Qatar and Vietnam.

According to CGTN, the English-language channel of State broadcaster CCTV, the team will start working with Chinese experts via video conference while in quarantine.

Peter Ben Embarek, team lead for the mission, told media persons, "After two weeks, we would be able to move around and meet our Chinese counterparts in person and go to the different sites that we will want to visit."
