Watch how this American hero saved an Indian in the Kansas shooting

Synopsis

Listen to Ian Grillot as he describes how the Kansas shooting went down How another Indian was saved the fate of Garmin's Indian employee Srinivas Kuchibhotla

A 32-year-old Hyderabad-based Garmin engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla, was killed and his colleague Alok Madasani was  injured after a Navy veteran, Adam Purinton, yelling "get out of my country" and "terrorist" fired at them at a Houston bar in an apparent racially motivated hate crime.

Purinton is believed to have mistaken them for people of Arabic descent, the scars of 9/11 still fresh in many minds. The incident sent shock waves across the Indian community and prompted civil rights groups to urge people from the sub-continent, particularly Sikhs, to be cautious and extra vigilant. More often than not Indians, especially Sikhs have become victims of racial crimes.

Ian Grillot, the 24-year-old American who through his bravery amanged to subdue the attacker and prevented Alok also from being another victim said in an interview from his hospital bed that when the shooting broke out, he hid until he counted that nine shots had been fired and he thought the gun magazine was empty but clearly he had misjuged.
