PM Modi dials Joe Biden, says firmly committed to Indo-US strategic ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation with US President-elect Joseph R Biden during which he warmly congratulated the latter on his election victory. PM Modi described Biden's win as a testament to the strength and resilience of democratic traditions in the United States.

The Prime Minister also extended his heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Vice President-elect Senator Kamala Harris.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said: "Spoke to US President-elect Joe Biden on phone to congratulate him. We reiterated our firm commitment to the Indo-US strategic partnership and discussed our shared priorities and concerns -- the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific Region"

"I also conveyed warm congratulations for Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Her success is a matter of great pride and inspiration for members of the vibrant Indian-American community, who are a tremendous source of strength for Indo-US relations," PM Modi added.

Prime Minister Modi recalled his earlier interactions with Biden, including during his official visits to the United States in 2014 and in 2016. 

Biden had chaired the Joint Session of the U.S. Congress that was addressed by Prime Minister Modi during his 2016 visit.

Biden is expected to be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States on January 20.
