Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates exits from Board of Directors post to focus on charity

Software giant, Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates exited from the post of Board of Directors. Gates is believed to have taken this decision to devote more time to his philanthropic work.

In a significant move to focus more on his philanthropic activity, software giant and co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, has decided to say ‘bye’ to the Board of Directors’ position. 

Gates and his wife Melinda now would want to focus much more on their charity. In 2000, Bill Gates had stepped down as the CEO of the company he co-founded along with friend Paul Allen in 1975, which grew into one of the biggest companies in the world. And from 2008, he served as chairman of the Board until 2014.

Gates is serving as technology adviser to current CEO Satya Nadella and would continue doing so. It is reported that, in a release, Nadella said, "It's been a tremendous honour and privilege to have worked with and learned from Bill over the years. Bill founded our company with a belief in the democratising the force of software and a passion to solve society's most pressing challenges; and Microsoft and the world are better for it."

Bill Gates’ net worth is estimated at more than $US100 billion ($A162 billion).

Recently, the Gates foundation had announced to chip in with funds to find the cure. It was reported that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation would give $ 100 million to accelerate the development of vaccines, drugs and diagnostics against COVID-19.
