Synopsis

The Thai man identified as Nithinon Srithaniyanan was caught with six vials of sperms. He confessed that previously he transported frozen sperms 12 times to Laos and 13 times to a clinic in Cambodia since 2016.

There are a lot of things that are smuggled around the world from drugs to antiques to gold to animals and animal parts, and a lot of other illegal things. However, in a unique case, the Thailand border police have caught a man smuggling frozen human sperms. Since when humans are so rare that semen needs to be smuggled in a frozen condition?

According to reports, the Thai man identified as Nithinon Srithaniyanan was caught with six vials of sperms at the Nong Khai customs checkpoint. The sperms were found in a nitrogen tank.

The 25-year-old man told police that he was transporting the semen for fertility clinic located in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, the BBC reported police as saying. He also confessed that previously he transported frozen sperms 12 times to Laos and 13 times to a clinic in Cambodia since 2016.

Interestingly, for each trip, the man makes 5,000 Thai baht which is close to ₹9000. Nithinon was booked by the police for violating the surrogacy law of the country despite showing certificates to prove that the sperms were of Chinese and Vietnamese men.

However, he was released after paying a hefty penalty of 200,000 Thai baht which is approximately ₹3,74,000 for smuggling forbidden goods out of Thailand.

Thailand banned surrogacy in 2015 and also made the export of eggs and human sperms illegal, thus making technologically-assisted fertilisation illegal.
