Kargil Vijay Diwas: Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain on how 1999 war shaped India's military

July 26 this year marks the 21st anniversary of the victory of the Indian Armed Forces in Operation Vijay against the infiltrating Pakistani troops at Kargil. One of the most prominent wars between India and Pakistan, the Kargil War took place between May 3 and July 26, 1999.  We asked Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain, a Siachen warrior and former commander of the 15 Corps, what lessons has the Indian armed forces learnt from the Kargil war and here’s what he had to say.
