The Delta variant of Coronavirus, which was first identified in India in October 2020, has been detected in 96 countries.
WHO designated Delta (B.1.617.2) as a variant of concern due to evidence of increased transmissibility. This has triggered doubt among many who wonder if the vaccines in circulation are effective in neutralising this variant.
WHO's Chief Scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan clarifies that all of the WHO emergency-use listed vaccines protect against developing severe disease, hospitalisation and death due to the Delta variant. Watch more
