World's longest railway platform is here, click to know more

After the remodelling of Hubballi district's railway station, Karnataka can now boast about having the world's longest railway platform. Earlier, the platform was about 681 meters long and now after remodelling, the platform length now stands at 1505 meters.


In a shot in the arm to Karnataka railway line network, Hubballi's railway platform has been extended from earlier 681 meters long to 1,505 metres long, thus earning world's longest railway platform status.

The extension of the platform towards Davanagere, Gadag from here has earned the world's longest platform claim officials.

Shri Siddaroodha Swami Railway station that comes under South Western Railway (SWR) was taken up for remodelling in 2019 with Rs 90 crore budget after General Manager Ajay Kumar Singh carried out an inspection and raised the concern with top officials and got the approval.

As per the release, the yard remodelling has now ensured arrival and departure of trains towards three sides Bengaluru/Davangere, Gadag and Londa/Goa/Maharashtra simultaneously.

The remodelling package includes signalling, electrical and third entry.

The platform was witnessing heavy crowds and there was a need to upgrade the existing platform.

The department was at a bottleneck with a single line working towards Gadag, Davangere and Londa for receiving and dispatching purposes and hence took up remodelling and extended, as a result now from existing five platforms, additional three have been added.
