World's largest ‘Khadi national flag’ installed in Leh on Gandhi Jayanti

Weighing 1000kg and made by Mumbai's Khadi Dyers & Printers, the Khadi flag was unveiled by Ladakh LG RK Mathur in the presence of Indian Army chief Gen MM Naravane. 

Leh: Remembering “Father of the Nation” Mahatma Gandhi on his 152nd birth anniversary, India on Saturday hoisted a monumental national flag of  150X225 ft specifications in Leh.

Weighing 1000kg and made by Mumbai's Khadi Dyers & Printers, the Khadi flag was unveiled by Ladakh LG RK Mathur in the presence of Indian Army chief Gen MM Naravane, 14 Corps Commander Lt Gen PGK Menon and other senior military and civilian officers. 

The flag was installed by Indian Army’s 57 Engineer Regiment. On the occasion three helicopters of the Indian Army performed flypast when the flag was hoisting.

Amid the border standoff with China, the Indian government has been pushing for infrastructural development in the region. In this regard, the BRO has commenced work on five road projects on October 1 while the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has already working on to construct highways and tunnels projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore.   

“It is a moment of great pride for India that on Gandhi ji's Jayanti, the world's largest Khadi Tiranga is unveiled in Leh, Ladakh. I salute this gesture which commemorates Bapu's memory, promotes Indian artisans and also honours the nation,” Union Health Minister Mansukh bhai Mandaviya said.
