The Maharashtra government also told the court that Union Minister Narayan Rane will not be arrested for his comment against Uddhav.

Amid the huge uproar over Union Minister Narayan Rane's remark against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday informed the Bombay High Court that it won’t take any coercive action against Narayan Rane in FIR lodged in Nashik.

A division bench comprising Justices SS Shinde and NJ Jamadar was hearing a plea filed by Rane, seeking to quash the FIR lodged in Nashik and all other cases that may be lodged in future.

The Maharashtra government also told the court that Union Minister Narayan Rane will not be arrested for his comment against Uddhav.

Rane in his plea submitted before the HC on Tuesday, had also sought interim protection from arrest.

The hearing in Narayan Rane’s petition has been adjourned to September 17.

Meanwhile, Bombay HC ruled cases against Narayan Rane in his favour.

Addressing the media, Union Minister Narayan Rane said, “The verdict in all cases (by Shiv Sena) filed against me in Bombay High Court has come in my favour. This is an indication that the country is run by laws.”

On Tuesday, Rane was arrested over his controversial remark in which he said he would slap Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for his "ignorance on the year of India's Independence".

"I am not a common man. I have not committed any crime. Is it not a crime if someone doesn't know about 15th August? I had said that I would have slapped these were the words and it's not a crime," Union Minister Narayan Rane was quoted as saying by ANI.

Late night, Rane got out after being granted bail and returned to Mumbai. According to the Raigad court order, the judge felt Rane’s “arrest was justified” but slammed the police for failing to maintain “proper case diary”.
