Lockdown in the state will now remain imposed from Friday evenings to 7 am on Tuesdays. The decision has been taken in the wake of Covid-19 situation.
The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday announced an extension to the existing weekend curfew in the state imposed to tackle the rising numbers of coronavirus disease cases. The curfew which was earlier imposed from 8pm on Friday till 7am on Monday has now been extended until 7am on Tuesday, an official from the state government said.
“Lockdown in the state will now remain imposed from Friday evenings to 7 am on Tuesdays. The decision has been taken in the wake of Covid-19 situation,” news agency ANI reported.
During the weekend lockdown, the state government said all markets, private and public offices will be closed from Friday night to Tuesday morning till further orders.
As per the latest order, the markets, shopping malls, and restaurants will also be closed. The government has advised people to remain indoors and only those involved in essential services will be exempted from the restrictions. However, the pharmacy shops, hospitals, and other essential services will be available during the lockdown. Moreover, the religious places will also remain shut.
The decision was announced after a meeting between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and top officials of the state government.
The decision came a day after Uttar Pradesh Wednesday reported the highest single-day surge in Covid-19 death toll. The state witnessed 266 fresh deaths on Wednesday along with 29,824 new cases.
The death toll in the state now stands at 11,943.
