The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday came up with a major decision of giving financial assistance to over 4,000 children orphaned due to Covid. Children will get a financial aid of Rs 4,000 every month until they reach 18 years under CM's special scheme.
With an eye on polls the Chief Minister CM Yogi Adithyanath on Thursday launched 'Chief Minister Bal Seva Yojana' in which the government will give Rs 4,000 monthly to each child below the age group of 18 who lost their parents due to Covid.
Among 4,050 children, 240 of them have lost both their parents, 3810 children lost one of their parents or their legal guardian due to Covid since March 2020.
To ensure these children's education and to hone their skills, schools have been put in place at the commissionerate level. In case of the orphaned girl child, Kasturba Gandhi Awasiya Balika Vidyalaya has been set up for special care and also the government will give Rs 1,01,000 at the time of marriage.
As per a study, 116,263 children in India have been orphaned due to Covid. It is said that 25,000 children lost their mother, 12 lost both their parents and 90,715 children lost their father due to Covid complications.
Earlier PM Narendra Modi announced that, to care for such children, a fixed account will be opened in their names and Rs 10 lakh will be deposited from 'PM-CARES' fund and once the children turn 18, they can claim it.
This apart, admission for children between 11-18 in centrally recognised schools and institutions like Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya and others including private schools under RTI will be done.
Such children will also get health insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh.
