TN man arriving from Britain tests COVID-19 positive, sample sent to NIV; southern states on high alert

After passengers from Delhi showed new Covid-19 symptoms, reports of Tamil Nadu native testing positive have rattled Southern states. The passenger returning from Britain, arrived at Delhi before boarding the Chennai flight. The samples have been sent to NIV Pune to check whether it has any links with the new Covid-19 strain.
 


After Chennai man tested positive for Covid-19, the entire state has been put on high alert. The health department officials who after sending his sample to the National Institute of Virology, subjected him to isolation at a hospital and are observing him.

Meanwhile, the health authorities have kept their fingers crossed hoping that the results do not show any link to new strains of Covid-19.

The passenger arrived from Britain and landed at Delhi Airport before taking the Chennai flight.

“One person who returned from the UK to Chennai via New Delhi has tested positive for coronavirus. The passenger was already under home isolation but once he tested positive, we have shifted him to King's Institute for further treatment. All passengers who came from the UK are being monitored,” J Radhakrishnan, Principal Secretary (Health) was quoted in the media.

He further added that the state need not worry as the government has taken enough measures to ensure the second wave does not strike.

Soon after this news spread, Southern states were rattled and the immediate neighbour Karnataka had expressed deep concern forcing CM Yediyurappa to react. The CM has directed officials to put the entire state on high alert to have a check on Covid-19 new strains.
