In remarks that are bound to trigger ripples within the Bharatiya Janata Party, former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and party leader Sushil Modi has remarked on the government's handling of the farmers' protest.
Paying tributes to Arun Jaitley on his birth anniversary, Sushil Modi quipped that the ongoing protests would not have dragged on for so long had the former finance minister been alive.
"Had Arun Jaitley been alive today, he would have found a solution to the problems being faced by the farmers and issues being raised by them (with regard to the farm laws)," Sushil Modi told media persons.
Farmers protests in the outskirts of Delhi against the new farm laws entered the 33rd day on Monday. The government and the farmers' union are scheduled to meet for the sixth round of talks on Tuesday.
However, the deadlock seems to be far from resolution with both sides refusing to budge from their stand.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has, time and again, advocated how the farmers would benefit from the new reforms in the long run.
PM Modi has accused Opposition parties of misleading the farmers on the issue.
