“Strong India-Australia partnership will play important role in shaping post-Covid world. And our youth, our young innovators, our startups, will be at the forefront of this partnership,” the PM said.

Expressing confidence in youths, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the youths of India and Australia can offer sustainable holistic solutions to the entire world in the circular economy.

The circular economy is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. In practice, it implies reducing waste to a minimum.

Speaking at the India-Australia Circular Economy Hackathon, PM Modi said, "The concept of the circular economy can be a key step in solving many of our problems. Recycling, reusing, eliminating waste and improving resource efficiency must become part of our lifestyle."

"This hackathon saw innovative solutions from India and Australian students, startups and entrepreneurs. These innovations will inspire our countries by taking circular economy solutions. We must now also explore ways to scale and incubate these ideas," he said.

The prime minister called for reducing the ecological impact, "It is not enough to make our production processes more efficient and less polluted. No matter how fast or slow one drives if the direction is wrong then one is bound to reach the wrong destination. And so we must say the right direction. We must look at our consumption pattern and how we can reduce their ecological impact."

He also expressed confidence in youths and said, "I have no doubt that your innovations will inspire our two countries to take the lead in circular economy solution and for that, we must now also explore ways to scale up and incubate these ideas."

The power of the youth comes from openness to new ideas and innovations and the ability to take a risk. The energy and enthusiasm of today’s youthfulness participation is a symbol of the forward-looking partnership between India and Australia, he added.

"I have full confidence in energy creativity and out of box thinking of our youths. They can offer sustainable holistic solutions to not just to our two countries but the whole world," PM Modi said.

Stating that strong India and Australia partnership will play an important role in shaping the post-Covid world, he said, "our youth, young innovators and startups will be at the forefront of this partnership".
