Second consignment of Russian Sputnik V vaccine arrives in Hyderabad

According to sources, 60,000 doses of vaccines have been sent by the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to Hyderabad-based Dr Reddy's Laboratories as part of the second tranche in a special flight.


The second consignment of Russian Covid19 vaccine, Sputnik V, arrived in Hyderabad from Russia on Sunday.

Sputnik V is the third vaccine in India to receive emergency use approval, besides Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Covishield of the Pune-based Serum Institute of India. Hyderabad-based Dr Reddy’s Laboratories has tied up with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) for the vaccine’s distribution in India.

Nikolay Kudashev, Russian Ambassador to India, shared the picture of the second consignment on Twitter: "A second batch of Sputnik V has landed in Hyderabad today! According to sources, 60,000 doses of vaccines have been sent by the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to Hyderabad-based Dr Reddy's Laboratories as part as part of the second tranche in a special flight.

On May 14, Dr Reddy's launched Sputnik V in the Indian market. The first dose was administered on the same day in Hyderabad.

Dr Reddy's Labs had earlier confirmed that the imported doses of Sputnik V vaccine will cost Rs 995.40 per shot. The price includes a GST of 5% on every dose. However, the doses of the vaccine that will be made in India are expected to be cheaper.

"Further consignments of imported doses are expected over the upcoming months. Subsequently, supply of the Sputnik V vaccine will commence from Indian manufacturing partners," said Dr Reddy's.

Sputnik V is a double dose vaccine to be taken with an interval of 21 days after the first dose with an efficacy of 91.6%.
