Reaching out to the poor, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa has announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 lakh to families that lost an adult earning member. The announcement comes after many poor families' situations were reported in the media.
As BPL families were hit hard due to Covid, CM BS Yediyurappa on Monday announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to each family.
Speaking to reporters, the CM said the family that lost an adult earning member due to Covid, the state will compensate the family with an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh.
"The Covid-19 pandemic has killed earning members, pushing families into extreme financial distress. Keeping this in mind, BPL families that have lost an adult earning member to Covid-19 will be given Rs 1 lakh as compensation. It will be limited to one person per family," CM said to reporters.
The CM had already announced a relief package of Rs 1850 crores and in addition Rs 200 to 300 crore will also be added to the list as Covid relief.
Despite financial constraints, the CM announced the package to BPL cardholders and said that compared to other states, the state's financial condition is still better.
Illegal immigrants to be deported
On the sidelines of the press meet, the CM to a question on illegal immigrants in Karnataka, said action will be taken and those who illegally entered will be deported.
