Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has embarked on a three-day visit to Dushanbe in Tajikistan from July 27-29 to attend the annual meeting of the Defence Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states.

In the annual meeting, the ministers will discuss the defence cooperation issues.

During his visit, the minister is also expected to meet his Tajik counterpart Col Gen Sherali Mirzo to discuss bilateral issues and other issues of mutual interest.

Tajikistan is chairing the SCO this year and hosting series of ministerial and official-level meetings.

The meeting will be also be attended by Rajnath's Chinese and Pakistani counterparts.

"The bilateral meetings with his Chinese and Pakistani counterparts have not been planned so far on the sidelines of the Summit," a defence source said.

On July 14, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a discussion with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Dushanbe on 'outstanding issues' along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between the two Himalayan giants.

During his meeting with the Chinese counterpart, Jaishankar had outlined that any unilateral change of status quo on the LAC was not acceptable and that normal bilateral ties would depend on the restoration of peace and tranquillity in the border areas.

The two leaders had met for the first time since September last year when they held talks on the sidelines of another SCO foreign ministers’ meeting in Moscow.
