Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has often found himself in the centre of controversy over his utterances. The Wayanad MP was all at sea when Union ministers lampooned him on Wednesday over his lack of knowledge.

In the backdrop of a collapsing government in Puducherry, an unfazed Rahul Gandhi arrived in Puducherry on a day-long visit and reached out to the fishing community in the Union Territory.

While slamming the Narendra Modi government over the farm laws, Rahul Gandhi referred to the fishing community as 'farmers of the sea'.

He sought to know why the country had a ministry for 'farmers of the land' and not for the 'farmers of the sea'.

And then began the backlash.

The future Congress party president seemed to have forgotten or rather was oblivious to the fact that there indeed exists a ministry for fisheries.

The ministry for fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying was established in May 2019 and the portfolio is currently handled by Giriraj Singh.

Non esiste un Ministero della pesca separato in Italia. Viene sotto Ministero delle Politiche Agricole e Forestali. https://t.co/Lv9x3r8ozK

— Shandilya Giriraj Singh (@girirajsinghbjp)

Mocking Rahul Gandhi, Giriraj Singh took to Twitter and posted in Italian to suggest that there may not be a ministry for fisheries in Italy, but there is one in India.
Joining the Italian lambasting session was Union Textiles and Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani.

She accused Rahul Gandhi of spreading lies and misinformation.

Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur too slammed Rahul Gandhi for misleading the fishermen community. Listing out some reforms, Thakur said that in 2019, the government had extended the Kisan Credit Card to Fisheries Farmers to meet working capital needs.
