President approves appointment of Justice NV Ramana as next Chief Justice of India

Justice Ramana is expected to take over as the Chief Justice of India on April 24, 2021, after the incumbent CJI SA Bobde retires on April 23.

President Ram Nath Kovind has given his consent to the appointment of Justice NV Ramana as the next Chief Justice of India.

Justice Ramana is expected to take over as the Chief Justice of India on April 24, 2021, after the incumbent CJI SA Bobde retires on April 23.

CJI Bobde had on March 24 recommended the appointment of Justice NV Ramana as his successor to the post.

Justice Ramana, the senior-most judge after CJI Bobde, was appointed to the Supreme Court on February 17, 2014. He will have a tenure till August 26, 2022.

Justice Bobde took over as the 47th Chief Justice of India in November 2019, succeeding Justice (retired) Ranjan Gogoi.
