Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indian Diaspora for its achievements worldwide after receiving a warm welcome from the community upon his arrival here. He was met by Indian Americans at the airport shortly after his plane landed here on Wednesday. He subsequently talked with members of the community at the hotel. "Thank you for the warm greeting from the Indian community in Washington, DC. Our diaspora is our strength," Modi stated in a tweet that included photos of him meeting with Indian American CEOs.

The Prime Minister's interactions with the expatriate population in big gatherings have been one of the highlights of his foreign journey. However, given the present COVID-19 scenario, the prime minister is unlikely to convene a significant gathering or meet with the diaspora. Modi is popular with Indian Americans, who make up more than 1.2 per cent of the country's population.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Washington, DC on a three-day visit to strengthen bilateral relations between the world's oldest democracy and the world's largest democracy and strengthen relationships with India's key partners, Japan and Australia.
Prime Minister Modi's Air India One landed at Maryland's Joint Base Andrews. He was met by Indian Ambassador to the United States Taranjit Singh Sandhu and US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources TH Brian McKeon. Despite the pouring rain, a crowd of Indian Americans gathered outside the airport to catch a sight of Prime Minister Modi. Prime Minister Modi momentarily stopped his cavalcade at the airport and shook hands with members of the diaspora.
