Mumbai: One dead, 26 rescued in massive building fire at high-profile 60-storey building

Synopsis

Mumbai Fire Brigade has declared the fire to be of level 4 instead of level 3 that was initially reported depicting the seriousness of the situation.

A massive Level 3 fire broke out in a 60-storey residential building in the Lalbaug area of Mumbai. The fire broke out on the 19th floor of the Avighna park building and eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

As per the Mumbai Fire Department, one person injured in the fire jumped from the 19th floor of the building and succumbed to his injuries.

The fire brigade officials said they have rescued 26 persons and all of them are safe and no injuries have been reported. 

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar visited the site. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Avighna park apartment at Curry Road is an under-construction building in which the fire broke out and several workers are feared trapped.

The blaze is said to be not limited to a single floor but has spread to several floors.

Meanwhile, MFB has declared the fire to be of level 4 instead of level 3 that was initially reported depicting the seriousness of the situation.
