10 year jail for 'Love Jihad' in MP's new Dharma Swatantrata Bill 2020

Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh government has drawn up the draft bill to tackle "Love Jihad" called the Dharma Swatantrata Bill 2020. The proposed new law hands a 10-year jail term for people marrying with the aim of religious conversion

Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh government has drawn up the draft bill to tackle "Love Jihad" called the Dharma Swatantrata Bill 2020.

The provisions of the Bill include:

* 10-year jail term for people marrying with the aim of religious conversion

* For voluntary conversion for marriage, it will be mandatory to apply to the collector a month in advance

* The guardians can complain in such cases and any gurus, priests, maulvis or kazis facilitating such marriages will be considered an accused and be penalized with a five-year jail term.

* Institutions which organise such an activity, their registration will be cancelled.

Even as the state Home Minister Narottam Mishra was sharing details of the Dharma Swatantrata Bill 2020 with media persons, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that he will not let ‘love jihad’ take place on MP soil.
