Security forces neutralized one terrorist identified as top Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) commander Sham Sofi in Kashmir's Tral area on Wednesday.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar informed that the encounter broke out at Tilwani Mohalla in the Tral area of Awantipora of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday after the militants opened fire at the security personnel, who retaliated.

He added that the slain terrorist has been identified as Sham Sofi who was a top JeM commander.

The Jammu-Kashmir Police and security forces are on the job. Further details are awaited

Earlier on Tuesday, the security forces had eliminated five terrorists linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF) in anti-terrorist operations at Tulran and Feeripora villages in the Shopian district.
