Imported Sputnik V vaccine shot to cost Rs 995.40; first dose administered

Doses of Sputnik V which will be made in India by Dr Reddy's Laboratories are likely to be cheaper.


Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Friday announced that the imported doses of Sputnik V vaccine will cost Rs 995.40 per dose. 

The first consignment of imported doses has received regulatory clearance from the Central Drugs Laboratory.

The price of the imported doses includes a five per cent GST per dose. 

A statement from Dr Reddy's said that the first dose of the Sputnik V vaccine had been administered in Hyderabad. Deepak Sapra, Global Head of Custom Pharma Services at Dr Reddy's, received the first jab of the vaccine.

Doses of Sputnik V which will be made in India are likely to be cheaper. Vaccine's developers Gamaleya have agreements with six Indian manufacturers, including 
Dr Reddy's to make up to 850 million doses a year.

At 91.6 per cent, Sputnik V has higher efficacy than Serum Institute of India's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin.

Sputnik V has already been administered to more than 20 lakh people worldwide.
