Haryana announces one-week complete lockdown from tomorrow

The state reported 13,588 fresh infections yesterday, along with 125 deaths. This took the state's overall caseload to 5,01,566 and 4,341 fatalities.


Haryana home and health minister Anil Vij announced on Sunday that the state will go into complete lockdown for a week amid a sharp spike in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the state.

"From May 3, there will be a 7-day long lockdown in the entire state," Haryana's home and health minister Anil Vij said in a tweet on Sunday.

Earlier, weekend curfew was enforced in nine districts of the state including Gurugram, Rohtak to stem the growth of the Covid-19 cases in the state. The curfew will be in force in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Panchkula, Sonipat, Rohtak, Karnal, Hisar, Sirsa and Fatehabad districts from 10 pm on Friday till 5 am on Monday.

"Residents must stay indoors during the lockdown period. No person shall leave their home or move on foot, in a vehicle, or stand, or roam around in any public place during the lockdown period," the order stated.

On Saturday, amid a second surge of Covid-19 pandemic, the Haryana government said it has decided that employees with severe disabilities, vulnerable persons and pregnant women shall not be called for duty, even if they are engaged in essential services.

According to the decision, if required, they can work from home provided they have the necessary infrastructure.

Amid a surge in coronavirus cases in the state, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had earlier asked authorities to take strict action against anyone found indulging in black marketing and hoarding of medical oxygen cylinders and other medical devices or antiviral injections used in the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
