After reporting around 10,000 new cases on Monday, the Kerala state witnessed 39 fully vaccinated medical students testing positive for Covid. This has caused more worry to the government which has relaxed Covid norms for Bakrid celebrations.
Amidst Covid spike in Kerala, completely vaccinated government medical college students from Thrissur have tested positive for Covid-19 infection.
The institution reopened on June 1. A total of 473 students in college were allowed to come in three batches and the infection was found among 39 students out of 175 from the second batch that reported to campus on June 6.
The Covid infection among ascertained following tests and all were admitted to hospital and treated accordingly. And other students were housed at campus hostel and they are also being tested and monitored.
As the college has to conduct theory exams, special arrangements for infected students were made and students appeared and gave their exams.
Apart from students, 13 staff of Indian Coffee House at the government medical campus tested positive and they are also under treatment.
The college authorities are contemplating shutting the campus hostel amidst the surge.
The reports of fully vaccinated students comes at a time when Kerala government is showing apathy towards infection by announcing three-day relaxation of Covid norms for Bakrid celebration.
According to the latest Covid data from the state health department, at present, there are 1,25,041 active Covid-19 cases. And with a daily increase in new cases, the total caseload will also increase.
