Kerala will go under complete lockdown starting May 8 to break the chain of the second wave of Coronavirus in the state.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took to Twitter to announce, "The entire state of Kerala will be under lockdown from 6 am on 8 May to 16 May. This is in the background of a strong 2nd wave of Covid-19."

The lockdown announcement comes a day after the state had recorded its highest single-day rise of 41,953 new cases of Covid-19 from 1,63,321 sample tested.
The Kerala Chief Minister had on Wednesday cautioned that the Covid-19 situation in the state is very serious.
"The test positivity rate is not coming down. The situation calls for imposing more restrictions in the state," he had said.
The Chief Minister informed media persons that instructions would be given to strengthening the ward-level committees and rapid response teams by incorporating the medical students from the areas.
Besides, the returning officers and all other officials who participated in the Assembly election process will also be included in such committees and teams.
