Coronavirus: Russia sends emergency humanitarian aid to India

As India reels under an alarming Covid-19 surge, Two Russian flights with oxygen concentrators, lung ventilation equipment, bedside monitors, medicines, including Coronavir and other essential pharmaceutical items landed in India to help the country in its fight against the Covid-19 surge.

These supplies comprise 20 oxygen production units, 75 ventilators, and 2,00,000 packs of medicines.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had said that two transport planes carrying medical supplies are already en route to India.

The information was shared by the ambassador of Russia to India, Nikolay Kudashev.

"The Russian Federation decided to send humanitarian assistance to India in the spirit of the special and privileged strategic partnership between our two countries as well as in the context of our anti Covid-19 cooperation," said Nikolay Kudashev.

"For this purpose, two urgent flights, operated by Russian EMERCOM arrived here today. These are oxygen concentrators, lung ventilation equipment, bedside monitors, medicines, including Coronavir & other essential pharmaceutical items," added Kudashev.

Russia sent medical supplies after a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Russian President Vladimir Putin. During this phone call, Putin assured of extending all possible support to India. Prime Minister Modi followed this up by thanking Putin and noted that Russia's prompt support to India was a symbol of the "enduring partnership" between both countries.

Putin also appreciated the emergency use approval granted to the Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine .
