Coronavirus: PM Modi to chair all-party meeting on Friday to discuss COVID-19 situation as cases rise

 The Parliamentary Affairs Ministry is coordinating the meeting and has reached out to floor leaders of all parties to attend the meeting on Friday at 10.30 am.

New Delhi: A crucial all-party meeting of the floor leaders of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha has been convened virtually on December 4 to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the country.

The meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have top ministers of the government, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, Arjun Ram Meghwal and V Muraleedharan, along with Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, present among a host of other officers.

This will be the second all-party meeting called by the government to discuss the Covid-19 situation since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Recently, PM Modi held a virtual conference with Chief Ministers of eight states and union territories, which are worst affected by the Covid pandemic.

During the meeting, PM Modi reviewed the status and preparedness of COVID-19 response and management, with special emphasis on eight high focus States. These states were Haryana, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat and West Bengal.

The modalities of Covid-19 vaccine delivery, distribution and administration were also discussed during the meeting.

There has been a lot of speculation as to when India will get its Covid-19 vaccine. This meeting is said to be crucial from the point of view of confidence-building measures for the nation and the government initiative to take everybody along.
