Youth Congress cadre poured tar oil over a cut-out of the Master Blaster in Kochi and then took out a protest march.
Sachin Tendulkar, who was in 2014 conferred the Bharat Ratna for his contribution to Indian cricket and for leaving a billion Indians mesmerised with his strokeplay, today stands in the firing line for taking a pro-India stand on social media.
Irony abounds in the Congress party's current stance considering it was Sonia Gandhi who approved Tendulkar's Rajya Sabha nomination.
To recall, Tendulkar had reacted to American pop star Rihanna and climate change activist Great Thunberg's remarks on the ongoing farmers' protests in the outskirts of the national capital New Delhi.
Tendulkar had taken to Twitter to say that India's sovereignty cannot be compromised and that "external forces can be spectators but not participants".

"Indians know India and should decide for India. Let's remain united as a nation," he added.
The tweet was met with a barrage of responses from across the spectrum, most of whom criticised the batting legend for not standing with the farmers' agitation and instead kowtowing to the government.
With the investigation into the Greta Thunberg 'toolkit' clearly pointing towards an orchestrated campaign to target the country and its administration using farmers protest as a pretext, there are chances Tendulkar may not have been on the wrong foot.
