Chennai cops arrest social media commentator Kishore K Swamy for defamatory posts

Kishore, a staunch critic of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly trying to provoke riots and promote feelings of enmity and hatred between different communities.


The police in Chennai on Monday morning arrested political commentator Kishore K Swamy for allegedly circulating defamatory content against former chief ministers and DMK veteran leaders CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi, and the present Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Another controversial post slammed the Tamil Nadu government for allowing the appointment of women as temple priests. Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister PK Sekar Babu had on Saturday said that many women had submitted petitions seeking permission to perform puja at temples.

Kishore, a staunch critic of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly trying to provoke riots and promote feelings of enmity and hatred between different communities.

Kishore has been remanded to judicial custody until June 28 in Chengalpattu sub-jail.

He was arrested in 2019 as well when he allegedly posted abusive Twitter posts against women journalists.
