Ministry clarifies: FASTags mandatory from today

Synopsis

The ministry has clarified that it is committed to implementing 100% E-tolling at fee plazas from today onwards, mandated under CMV Rules, as amended.

The Road Transport and Highways Ministry has clarified reports that earlier stated that the deadline for mandated fitment of FASTags had been extended till February 15.

In its clarification, the ministry said that fee payment can be made in cash and through fast tags in hybrid lanes of toll plazas till February 15.

From today, FASTags will be mandatory for passenger cars (M) and goods carriers (N) sold before December 1, 2017.

Category 'M' stands for a motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying passengers. Category ‘N’ stands for a motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying goods, which may also carry persons in addition to goods.

Moreover, in FASTag lanes of fee plazas, payment of fees will continue to be through FASTag only.
