Will it be Narendra Modi Vs Mamata Banerjee in 2024? If statements by Assam Independent MLA and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi are to be believed, that could well be the case.

Akhil Gogoi has said that efforts are underway to form an alliance of regional parties with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the leader to remove the Bharatiya Janata Party from power at the Centre in 2024.

The remarks assume significance in the wake of recent developments that saw Mamata urge the Opposition to prepare for a united fight against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

She sounded the election bugle while addressing the Trinamool Congress party's Martyrs' Day event which was attended virtually by several members of Opposition parties.

She called upon leaders of Opposition to set aside personal differences and united against the common rival, the BJP.

She dropped another hint days later when she said that TMC's poll slogan of 'khela hobe' (there will be a game) has become hugely popular among people, and the entire country would witness a match that will be played in the days to come.

Mamata also said that West Bengal will take pride in showing India the way.

Officially, though, Mamata denies having any Prime Ministerial ambitions. However, her party and her party colleagues have been sparing no opportunity on social media to project her as a national leader who would bring 'Sacche Din' (a jibe on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's  'Achhe Din' election remark).
