5 security personnel killed in encounter with Naxals in Chhattigarh's Bijapur

Synopsis

A joint team of security forces was on an operation after receiving specific inputs about the presence of a large number of Naxals in the region.

Four District Reserve Guard personnel and one CRPF trooper were killed and twelve other soldiers were injured in an encounter with Naxals in Bastar division of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district.

There are reports of some security personnel being missing since the encounter.

A joint team of security forces was on an operation after receiving specific inputs about the presence of a large number of Naxals in the region.

Personnel belonging to the CRPF's elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), the DRG and the Special Task Force were involved in the operation.

Two MI 17 helicopters and nine ambulances have been rushed to the spot for evacuation.

The operation comes a little over a week after five DRG personnel were killed when Naxals blew up a bus carrying security personnel with an IED in Narayanpur district on March 23.
