24 arrested after doctor is thrashed in Assam Covid Care Centre

On Wednesday morning, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to update that 24 culprits involved in the attack had been arrested.

Assam Police has arrested 24 people after a video of a doctor being thrashed by family members of a deceased Covid-19 patient went viral.

Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati, posted at Udali Covid Care Centre in Hojai district of central Assam, was attacked by near relatives of the patient.

The video showed the doctor being attacked with a broom and medical pan. The video also showed him being kicked and punched by the mob.

On Wednesday morning, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to update that 24 culprits involved in the attack had been arrested. He also said that the charge sheet would be filed as soon as possible.

Assuring that such barbaric attacks on frontline workers would not be tolerated by his administration, Sarma said that he is personally monitoring this investigation and that justice will be served.

Meanwhile, Special Director General of Police GP Singh said that the state police would submit a strong charge sheet in the shortest possible time and ensure the criminals are brought to justice.
