Hyderabad has a new traffic 'rule'! Helmet mandatory while driving a car

Synopsis

Car driver challaned for not wearing helmet in Hyderabad. Owner of the car asked to pay Rs 100 immediately to avoid legal procedures. Police authorities dismiss the incident as a mistake.

The headline would have been deceptive had it not been for the news that follows. A traffic policeman challaned a a cab driver for not wearing a helmet in Hyderabad. On Tuesday, the taxi driver Vishnu was actually challaned for the 'offence'.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, he said," while driving, I was stopped by the traffic police. Cops asked me to show the documents, and I did. I was not aware that I had got a challan for not wearing a helmet while driving a car. I discovered that only today."

The policeman sent a message to the owner of the cab that a challan has been issued to the driver of his car TS09ES4716  for not wearing a helmet, which is a traffic violation. He was also directed to pay Rs 100 immediately to avoid legal procedure. When the incident was reported to the police, officials dismissed it as a rare mistake that happened while the police was entering the incident in his tablet computer. DCP Ranganath, further justified, "It is a mistake. Such mistakes do happen as cops challan several drivers in a day."
