Balapur Ganesh laddu auctioned for record high price of Rs 15.60 lakhs

Balapur Lord Ganesh laddu was auctioned at a record price of at Rs 15.60 lakhs. Last year, the laddu was auctioned for Rs 14.65 lakhs. This year, the highest bid was won by Nagam Tirupati Reddy of Jubilee Hills Ayyappa Society.

Hundreds of devotees from across the country participate in Hyderabad’s Balapur Lord Ganesh laddu auction. This year the Hyderabad Balapur laddu was auctioned at a record price of at Rs 15.60 lakhs.

Last year, the laddu was auctioned for Rs 14.65 lakhs. This year, the highest bid was won by Nagam Tirupati Reddy of Jubilee Hills Ayyappa Society. The auction which started at 10 AM continued for 25 minutes.

Hyderabad is famous for its Ganesh idols and the laddus placed before the idols. The laddu is auctioned on the last day of Ganesh Chathurthi after the idol is taken away for immersion in the river. The ritual of auctioning Lord Ganesh’s laddus during the 11-day long festival has been taking place since 1994.

The laddu considered the golden laddu would be distributed among friends and well-wishers after performing puja and it will also be sprinkled in the fields for a better crop.

The Balapur laddu auctioning which first began in 1994, was sold for Rs 450. Over the years, the bidding prices kept increasing. It increased to Rs 4500 in 1995 and from then on it kept increasing year after year and now after two decades, it was auctioned at Rs 15.60 lakhs.
