WhatsApp compliance report reveals more than 2.2 million Indian accounts banned in September

According to the most recent report posted, 2,209,000 Indian accounts on the app were banned in September. It went on to say that an Indian account is identifiable by a "+91" phone number.


More than 2.2 million Indian accounts were banned, and the messaging network received 560 grievance reports in September, stated WhatsApp's compliance report. According to the most recent report posted on Monday, 2,209,000 Indian accounts on the app were banned in September. A company representative said that WhatsApp is the market leader in preventing misuse among end-to-end encrypted messaging platforms. The representative further added that the user-safety report provides information about user complaints received and the accompanying action taken by WhatsApp and WhatsApp's own preventative steps to combat abuse on our platform. WhatsApp has submitted its fourth monthly report for the 30 days of September 1-30, complying with the IT Rules 2021.

Previously, the Facebook-owned corporation indicated that the unlawful use of automated or mass messages was responsible for more than 95% of the spam. Each month, WhatsApp removes around 8 million accounts in order to prevent abuse of the network.

According to WhatsApp's most recent report, it received 560 user complaints in September, encompassing account support (121), ban appeal (309), other support and product support (49 each), and safety (32). Based on the information received, 51 accounts were handled during this time period. WhatsApp said that "Accounts Actioned" refers to corrective action done in response to the reports. Taking action means either banning an account or restoring a previously banned account due to the complaint.

Also, reports may have been reviewed but not marked as "Actioned" for a variety of reasons. The reasons might include the user requiring assistance to access their account or use certain features, requesting the restoration of a banned account and having the request denied. Earlier,  WhatsApp suspended over 2 million Indian accounts in August, and the messaging network received 420 complaints reports.
