Google, FB’s 12.8 km undersea cable from LA to Hong Kong

Google announced its partnership with Facebook on Wednesday to build the first direct submarine cable system between Los Angeles and Hong Kong with ultra high-capacity.
Google wrote on its official blog, "From data centres to cables under the sea, we’re dedicated to building infrastructure that reaches more people than ever before."
The 12,800 km long undersea fibre cable connection is expected to have a capacity of transmitting 12 Tbps of data which makes it the "highest-capacity trans-Pacific route".
The present similar and the fastest cable network, FASTER, is also backed by Google.
FASTER, which is spread under the sea between the US and Japan "gives Google access to up to 10Tbps of the cable’s total 60Tbps bandwidth.
The new Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN) will provide enough capacity for Hong Kong to have 80 million concurrent HD video conference calls with Los Angeles, said the blog.
PLCN would be the sixth undersea cable network for internet in which Google would invest.
