BSNL brings unlimited local and STD calls at ₹144

Synopsis

BSNL's ₹144 plan is available for prepaid and postpaid users.  It offers unlimited local and STD calls to any network for one month.

BSNL has launched a new, affordable ₹144 plan for its customers. Following telcos like Jio and Airtel, it is offering similar unlimited plans.

The plan offers unlimited local and STD calls to any network for one month, along with 300MB data. The plan is valid for six months. Moreover, the new packs are valid for prepaid as well as postpaid users.

BSNL has actively taking initiatives to bring Internet to all, which includes its 4400 Wi-Fi hotspots plan. "We have 4,400 W-Fi hotspots launched country wide. I think in Mahabalipuram near Chennai has a similar WiFi hotspots. Our immediate strategy is to expand this. In next one year, we will be having around 40,000 WiFi Hotspots across the country," Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Srivastava told PTI.

But BSNl isn't the only one doing so. Last month, Airtel had offered similar packs with free local and STD calls. It had put forth two offers - ₹145 and ₹345. Valid for 28 days, the ₹145 pack offered 300MB of 4G data along with free local and STD Airtel to Airtel calls. The other plan, also valid for 28 days, offered 1GB of 4G data along with free STD and local calls to any network in India. These prices are for Delhi circle, may vary depending upon your circle.

Telcos are believed to be offering such free calling packs to combat Reliance Jio's Happy New Year Offer that is grappling with the controversy over its March extension. But Jio offers a better plan than the rest with free 1GB of 4G data per day, along with free voice calls under the Happy New Year offer valid until March 31, 2017. The least price stands at Rs 149, offering 300MB of data and unlimited nigh surfing, local and STD calls. However, it has been struggling with quality issues.
