Tamil Nadu: CM increases compensation for firefighters

Synopsis

CM Palaniswami has increased the compensation for firefighters if they lose their lives in the line of duty The Chief Minister said that the fire service department will be given the equal compensation as that of police department

Chief Minister E Palaniswami announced that the exgratia has been increased for the families of fire fighters who lose their life while on duty. 

The compensation amount is increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. 

He said that the fire service department will be given the equal compensation as that of the police department.

Recently, in Chennai, a firefighter who was trying to put out a fire in a bakery was killed as an LPG cylinder exploded. 

The fire left 48 more people with burn injuries.

Following this incident, the Chief Minister has made some changes in the compensation.
