Several reports in local Tamil media reported that the Supreme Court on Monday had granted a 30-day parole to AIADMK General Secretary V K Sasikala, who is currently jailed in a disproportionate asset case. As per those reports, by Monday evening, she would leave the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru, where she is serving a four-year sentence.

However, on being contacted, the Prisons DGP in Bengaluru told Asianet Newsable's correspondent that no such order existed.

Sashikala had applied for parole after her nephew TV Mahadevan died on April 15, following a cardiac arrest. Mahadevan, 47, son of Sasikala's elder brother Dr Vinodagan, was the secretary of a party forum named after the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. He was also a close aide of Sasikala, who stood by her during the split of AIADMK.

Though she applied for parole to attend the funeral on April 16, her request was rejected.

On February 14, 2016, Supreme Court restored the verdict of the trial court in disproportionate asset case and awarded a four-year prison sentence to Sasikala. She was also barred from contesting elections.

Sasikala has been convicted of misusing Jayalalithaa's CM's office to accrue Rs 60 crore in assets.
