Rajiv Gandhi's assassin Perarivalan's mother requests parole for son

Synopsis

Arputham Ammal, mother of Rajiv Gandhi assassination accused Perarivalan said it was Jayalalitha who gave recognition to him in the Assembly as a citizen She recalls how they took him with the assurance that he would be back in no time but 26 years have passed and he is still in prison She says that he was branded as ‘murderer’ and no thought was given on the release of him for the first 23 years

“Abiding by the rules of law and justice, we plea for the parole of Perarivalan,” says Arputham Ammal, mother of Perarivalan who is in prison for the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi.

She met reporters in Chennai and said, “For the release of Perarivalan, many took efforts. This continues till date, with voices being raised by Thamimun Ansari, Karunas and Thaniyarasu. I owe my thanks to them. I thank the media as well in respect of this. When the former chief minister Jayalalitha was ruling, she took efforts for the release of 7 persons. Now I request for the parole owing to the ill health of my husband. “

“Jayalalitha had made it clear that the state government is empowered to take a stand on deciding the parole. With regards to this, she even approached the Supreme Court. In the same way, the current CM should also take the necessary steps. They just took him with the assurance that he would be back in no time but it is 26 years since he left us and he is still in prison,” She further added.

“He was branded as ‘murderer’, and no thought was given on the release of him for first 23 years. It was Jayalalitha who gave recognition to them in the Assembly as citizens. The demise of her is a great loss to me. The people, who say that they adhere to the principles of Jayalalitha, should work in respect of this. In this old age, all we want is nothing but to be with our son for the rest of our lives. It has been declined, saying that the state cannot grant parole as CBI has undertaken the issue, but it is not true since many states have granted parole despite the CBI’s probe,” she concluded.
