The debate on subsidy demands for the Police Department was carried out in the Assembly today, July 6, 2017. 

It was speculated that the retired policemen and their family members would stage a protest to express unhappiness over the system, during the subsidy demands debate.

In order to prevent them from staging the protest, police protection was provided to the Secretariat Office, Marina and Chepauk. 

It was also said that the protestors would seize the Secretariat Office and the Assembly. Hence intense surveillance was carried out in those areas.

Police protection was given in the areas of Kamaraj Salai and War Memorial as well.
